June 18th - August 27th
Collage and Assemblage are approaches to creating art with conventional an unconventional materials that are limitless in their scope. Collage got its start with Picasso and Braque and was utilized by many prominent artists such as Henri Matisse and Kurt Schwitters in the early to mid 1900's. In the late 20th contrary, artists such as Romare Bearden, Damian Hirst, and David Hockney found collage an important addition to their arsenal of expressive tools. Since then, many artists have immersed themselves in collage and assemblage as an art form unto its self, as seen in the work of Hannah Hoch photomontage, Joseph Cornell assemblage, Kris Kuksi assemblage, Roslyn Rose digital collage, and Mickalene Thomas mixed media, to name a few. Up-cycled bits from a fragmented society, altered books, altered art, found object sculpture, digital inventions and mixed media have become an art form that has come to the forefront and emerged as one of the most compelling new developments in the art world today.
Blue Door Art Center is honored to showcase the work of artists who are creating something whole from the chaos, powerfully and contemplatively.
We are planning a new closing reception on August 27th with 'Walk-n-Talk' by participating artists.
